Leshan Giant Buddha

 

A buddha statue standing over 41 meters tall and over 8 meters long. The statue took over 90 years to carve, and today stands as the largest Buddha carving in the world.

Qingcheng Mountain

 

Qingcheng Mountain is a popular tourist destination for those wishing to escape the city. The Mountain is home to a variety of Taoist Temples where you can find many monks living and practicing their beleifs.

Mt. Emei

 

Mt. Emei is one of the most popular sightseeing mountains in China. The Mountain is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and holds 4 scenic regions. The landscape is full of trees, water, waterfalls, and wildlife.

 

Among the wildlife, many people visiting the Mt. Emei region like to stop at the Natural Ecology Monkey Reserve. Here you can buy packs of sunflower seeds and feed the monkeys (proceed with caution though, monkeys in this area have been said to be very aggressive!).

Visit an Ancient Town

 

Ancient towns are a great way to explore Chinese history. While many of the ancient towns have been rebuilt and remodelled, they still give people the feeling of "Old" China. Here are a few ancient towns near Sichuan that you may be interested in checking out:

  • Loudai ancient town (on right)

  • Pingle Ancient Town

  • Liujiang Ancient Town

  • Ancient town of Yaoba

  • Zhaohua Ancient City

  • Shangli Ancient Town

Spend a day at the Park

 

Sometimes you just need to escape city life and get into nature. Here are a few parks in Sichuan that can help you do that:

  • Wangjianglou Park 

  • Jianmenguan National Park

  • Cuopugou National Park

  • Lianghe City Forest Park

  • Xingwen Shihai Geological Park

Tianfu Square

 

Tianfu is the largest city square in Southwest China and is full of museums, shopping malls, art galleries, mosques, parks, and more.

Huanglong Scenic Valley

 

The Huanglong Scenic valley is often described as a "Fairy land on Earth". The scenery holds true to it's description with mountains, forests, ponds, beaches, waterfalls, and other natural wonders all around.

Jinlong Great Wall

 

Also known as the Luodai Great Wall, The Jinlong Great wall is considered a mini "replica" of the real Great Wall. While it is not the real deal, it is very difficult to tell that the difference.

Shufeng Sichuan Opera

 

If visiting Sichuan there are two things you cannot miss. The biggest tourist attractions in Sichuan are the Panda Reserves. With that said, a trip to Sichuan cannot be called complete without a visit to the Sichuan Opera. Opera plays a large role in Sichuan culture and tourism industry. The shows are colorful, humorous, acrobatic, and everything in between!

Tiantai Mountain

Jinli Old Street

 

A street full of Old World Stores, Traditional arts, artisan shows, and much more. The street is also home to many yearly festivals such as the Lantern Festival and the Dragon Boat Festival.

Nine Bends Cliff Road

 

The Leshan Giant Buddha is one of the most popular attractions in Sichuan. To the right of the Buddha is a "cliff road", or a flight of stairs that will allow you to climb from the bottom to the top.

Shunan Bamboo Forest

 

Also referred to as the Bamboo Sea, this forest is one of the largest bamboo forests in the world. The forest runs for over 120 km and is, as you have probably already guessed, full of bamboo trees.

Hanging Coffins

 

If you travel to Gongxian, Sichuan you will find some mysterious looking coffins hanging from the cliffs. These coffins were left behind by the "Bo People" who died out over 400 years ago. Some of the tombs are estimated to be over 3000 years old. Why they are hanging from the cliff no one knows, although there are some theories that they were thought to be "closer to the Gods" this way.
