The set of the famous television show, MASH can be found in Malibu Creek State Park. The land was once owned by 20th Century Fox and was used as the set of many popular TV series and movies. Today, people not only visit the park to see the famous set, but also to endulge in the beautiful scenery and surroundings.

Hike the Arcadia Wilderness Park

 

The Arcadia Wilderness Park is the perfect place to surround yourself with nature and let all of the stresses in life go. The park is set amoungst the San Gabriel Mountains and features beautiful scenery, wildlife, and lookouts.

Walk Down Rodeo Drive

 

It's the street that has been made famous by countless movies (including "Pretty Woman") and is seen all over television. Full of designer stores, Rodeo drive is one of the most notorious shopping streets in the entire world! Whether you decide to shop the strip or not, it is definitely worth the walk - you might even stroll past a favorite celebrity!

Cruise Mulholland Drive

 

If you like to cruise, Mulholland Drive is a popular scenic route. The Drive runs through the Santa Monica Mountains and provides skyskraper views, mountain scenery, and even a look at the oh-so-famous Hollywood sign! Also along the route? Numerous celebrity homes!

Check out the Spadena House

 

Often referred to as the "Witch House", the Spadena House was originally built in 1921 by art director Harry Oliver. The house was so strange that it looked like something straight out of a fairy tale. For decades the home has been attracting attention to itself by passers by. Unfortunately, it is a privately owned home and there are no tours avaialble. Still, it is well worth a walk or drive-by.

Visit an Old McDonalds

 

Downey, California is home to one of the oldest McDonald's in the world. It still has its original arches, and the employees wear the 1950's paper hats with white shirts and polo ties. And the food? You can buy current McDonald's meals, or try the original hamburgs, fries, and milkshakes!

Drive the Pacific Coast Highway

 

California's PCH is one of the most beautiful drives in the world. The highway runs over 140 miles along the California Coast. If driving at a comfortable pace, the drive takes approximately 5 hours. It has plenty of scenic outlooks and places to stop for a bite along the way!

Shop at the Americana

 

The Americana is a large outdoor shopping center located in Glendale, California. It includes both shopping and dining establishments, as well as a movie theater.

Dapper Cadaver

 

Dapper Cadaver is a unique shop that provides buyers with high quality Hollywood Props. From body parts, to blood, to skeletons, to animals, and other oddities, the Dapper Cadaver is full of unique and strange wonders for purchase!

Murphy's  Ranch

 

While it now stands as a heavily graffitied abandoned building, Murphy's Ranch is rumoured to be an abandoned Nazi Camp. The camp was built with intentions of being a self-sustaining community for when Germany won the war and anarchy broke out in the US (which obviously did not happen). The Ranch can be accessed today by hike.

Sunken City

 

San Pedro is home to the "Atlantis of California". While the area is now gated off, it is still of interest to some to go and explore the city that was emersed beneath water due to a massive landslide. Please note that you can view the sunken city from above, but it is considered TRESPASSING to go any further.

Abandoned Zoo

 

In Griffith Park you will find an old abandoned zoo that was in operation for almost five decades. While there are no animals in it today, all of the old cages and caves still exist.

 

 

The Last Bookstore

 

If you enjoy reading, you may want to check out the largest Bookstore in California - "The Last Bookstore". The store sells both new and used books, as well records.

 

Abalone Cove Trail

 

If you're looking for a good hike, check out the Abalone Cove Trail in Palos Verdes. A secluded beach, tidepools, beautiful views, and a close up look at aquatic animals are just a few things this hiking trail offers. 

Time Travel Mart

 

Take a trip back or forward in time at the Time Travel Mart! The Mart sells everything from Mistake Eating Robots, to Centurion Helmets, to Robot Toupees, and Robot Emotions. If you're looking for a place that will make you smile, the Echo Park Time Travel Mart is where you need to be!

Griffith Observatory

 

The Griffith Observatory not only offers some of the most beautiful views of Los Angeles, but it also gets you up close and personal with the Universe. And the best part? Access to the Observatory, the Grounds, and the telescopes are completely free. Planetarium tickets are available for a small fee.

The Hollywood Sign

 

The Hollywood Sign has been a main attraction in California for years. While you can see the sign from main ground, it is much more exciting to get up close and personal. While you can no longer walk right up to the sign, there are several trails that get you close. These trails include the Mt Hollywood Trail, The Canyon Blvd Trail, and the Cahuenga Peak trail. 

Hike Mt Baldy 

 

Mt Baldy is a huge attraction for hikers. There are 2 different route options to the top of the mountain which reaches over 3 900 feet of elevation. For those who want to omit the least exciting part of the hike, ski lifts can be utilized on weekends for a small fee.

Enter the Batcave!

 

This is a great photo opportunity for anyone who loves Batman. You yourself can enter into the Batcave located in Bronson Canyon Park. 

Hike Runyon Canyon

 

Just a few blocks from Hollywood Blvd is a popular hiking destination known as Runyon Canyon. The hike is a difficult one, but the views at the top are completely worth it! You can even catch a glimpse of the Hollywood sign on your way up.

Linda Vista Hospital

 

If you're looking for something spooky to do, check out the ruins of the Linda Vista Hospital. While in existence, the hospital gave home to many innocent victims of gang crimes, as well as many dying gang members themselves. Today the abandoned hospital in Los Angeles is a popular place for short films and visitors looking to get a scare. Rumour has it the building is very haunted! 

 

 

Hollywood Walk of Fame

 

Quite possibly one of the most visited and photographed spots in all of California is Hollywood's Walk of Fame. The Walk features the stars and names of the most famous celebrities in Hollywood

The Getty Center

 

The Getty Center is a large museum in Los Angeles that features a variety of permanent and moving exhbitions. It highlights European and American art, as well as architecture and gardens. Admission is free!

The Grove

 

Looking for a great place to shop? The Grove is a beautiful outdoor shopping center with stores and restaurants throughout. 

Venice Beach

 

If you're in the Los Angeles area, you have to check out Venice Beach at least once. The beach itself runs for approximately 3 miles, but is not the areas main attraction. What attracts the most visitors are the street performers. Venice Beach attracts everyone from magicians, to mimes, to fortune tellers, to acrobats, to any other kind of entertainer you can think of!

Venice Canals

 

Okay, so it's not Italy, but the Venice Beach Canals still make for a lovely walk. Aside from the canals themselves, there are some beautiful homes to admire along the walk, and the stroll is a great way to escape all of the chaos that is Venice Beach. 

Hollywood Blvd

 

If you are a visitor to Hollywood, you can't miss a walk down Hollywood Blvd. It is here that you will find the famous "Hollywood Walk of Fame", as well as the Chinese Theater, Madame Tussauds, and many other great attractions. You can also catch a great view of the Hollywood sign from here, and, if you're lucky, maybe you'll catch a glimpse of a Hollywood event!

Necromance

 

Located in Los Angeles is a store full of strange and bizzare oddities. At Necromance you can find everything from framed spider webs and jarred bugs to taxidermied bats and dried chipmunks.

Los Feliz Murder Mansion

 

Sitting atop a Los Feliz hill is a home that turned into a house of terror on the night of Dec 6, 1959. On this date the owner of the house beat his wife to death with a hammer, severely beat his own daughter, and then committed his own suicide by drinking a glass of acid. The house has been virtually untouched since that dreadful day and much of the murder scene remains in place.

Caines Arcade (Los Angeles)

 

In the summer of 2011, a young boy named Caine Monroy decided that he wanted to spend his summer fulfilling his dreams of running his own arcade. Of course he could not afford to buy real machines, so he built an entire arcade out of cardboard boxes. After an entire summer with no customers, a filmmaker named  Nirvan Mullick crossed the boys path. He was so impressed with the boys entrepreneurial skills that he made a short film based on the arcade. The video instantly went viral. Today the arcade has raised over $240 000, much of which is donated to an "Imagination Foundation"  designed to help children enhance their creativity and entrepreneurial skills. Psychiatry : An Industry of Death Museum

 

Run by the Citizens Commission on Human Rights, the Psychiatry museum is "dedicated to telling the truth about Psychiatry". According to the museum, Psychiatry is a profit industry that offers pretend help and  often leads to negative consquences, and even death. This free, self guided tour includes artifacts, displays, and documentaries to educate the population on Pyschiatric practices.

Venice Beach Freakshow

 

Okay, so admission is not completely free, but you can't beat $5 for the Freakshow experience. Based on  AMC's reality tv show "Freakshow", this museum is home to a variety of oddities. Once you are finished checking out the strange exhbits you will be treated with a short "Freakshow".

El Matador Beach

 

If you are looking for a beautiful beach escape, try El Matador Beach in Malibu. The beach itself is very scenic and is home to a variety of sea caves and large rocks. 

Escondido Falls 

 

If you enjoy hiking, the trail to Escondido Falls is a beautiful 3.8 mile round-trip walk. While there is plenty of scenery along the way, the falls are well worth the hike all on their own. 

Hollywood Forever Cemetery

 

Okay, so it's a little creepy to be touring around a cemetery, but if you're a hard core movie fan, you may want to check it out. The cemetery is a landmark in California and is the final resting place of many famous directors, writers, and performers. 

Devils Gate Dam

 

Do you believe in a portal to hell? There are many who do - and who believe that the gate is in LA. The Gate has been thought to be one of the 7 portals to hell since ancient times and is of fascination to many ghost hunters and paranormal investigators. 

Third Street Promenade

 

Also in Santa Monica is the Third Street Promenade. While the Promenade is beautiful during the day, it really lights up at night. Retail shopping, dining, and entertainment are the main focus.

Santa Monica Pier

 

The Santa Monica Pier is open year round and is a landmark of the area. It offers entertainment, shopping, and an amusement park all in one place. 

Hit the Beach

 

Los Angeles has plenty of sun, and plenty of beaches where you can soak it up! Malibu Beach, Santa Monica Beach, Venice Beach, Zuma Beach, and Hermosa Beach are just a few of the many in the Los Angeles area.

Travel Route 66

 

Historic Route 66 is a large stretch of highway that runs all the way from the Colorada River to the Pacific Ocean. It runs for approximately 315 miles and passes through all of Californias most beautiful landscapes including mountains, beaches, and valleys.

Muscle Beach

 

Muscle Beach is known as the most popular outdoor gym in the world. There are currently 2 of these beaches in California, one in Santa Monica and one in Venice Beach. They are often frequented by acrobats, gymnasts, and body builders
