Located in Dartmouth, the Institute of Oceanography is Canada's largest center for Ocean Research. You can take a guided tour of the institute to learn about the Titanic, seafloor mapping, and more! You can also explore additional exhibits, take a virtual reality tour, watch demonstrations, and dip your hand in the touch tank!

Enjoy the Public Gardens

 

The Halifax gardens originally opened in 1867, and stand today as a 16 acre oasis created by horticulturalists, gardeners, and superintendants. The gardens are a reflection of Victorian culture and boast over 140 species of tree, as well as fountains, statues, and other Victorian pieces.

Halifax offers free walking tours to explore downtown historic Halifax. While all tours are free, donations are welcomed.

Historic Properties 

 

Historic Properties are a series of wooden and brick warehouses along the Halifax waterfront. These buildings were built between 1800-1885 for merchants, as well as trading and shipping companies. Today they have been restored and turned into shops, restaurants, and offices.

The Buskers

 

The Buskers is a massive festival that features amazing performers from all around the globe. Musicians, acrobatics, comedians, and fire throwers are just a few of the many exciting performers that you can see at the festival. And while tips are happily welcomed by performers, admittance is absolutely free.

Sable Island

 

Sable Island is a remote location 300km southeast of Halifax. Access to the island depends on weather and water conditions, and the only method of getting there is through self transportation. Why visit the island? Not only does it offer remote landscapes, but it is also home to many free roaming horses!
