CAT ISLAND, BAHAMAS

        FREE AND FUN

The Hermitage

The Hermitage was built in 1939 by Monsignor John Hawes. It was built with local stone and is located on Mt. Alvernia, the highest point in all of the Bahamas. The mountain stands over 206 feet tall.

John Hawes used the Hermitage as a place to escape the world, but died in 1956. It is said that he is buried somewhere on the property.

Go to the Beach

The Bahamas have some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and they are all over! Some of the best beaches on Cat Island include Fernandez Bay Village Beach, Greenwood Beach Resort Beach (a pink sands beach), Turtle Cove Beach, and Oyster Lake beach (among many more).

Mermaid Hole

Okay, so you don't beleive in sea monsters...But what about Mermaids? In Bain Town you will find a lake that many believe is home to real mermaids. Legend has it that there are 4 bedholes within the lake that lead to a series of underground caves and caverns.

Scuba Diving

Cat Island is home to some amazing dive spots. Unfortunately, because it is not a tourist hotspot, you will have a hard time finding any local tour operators. With that said, if you have your own equipment and are a confident diver, there are plenty diving spots that offer an abundance of underwater life.
