Go to the Lake

 

Tibet has some amazing lakes, each with their own unique landscapes and scenery. A few of the most popular lakes inclde Rawok Lake (as seen on right), Lake Yamdrok, and Namtso Lake.

Visit a Monastery or Temple

 

For those who don't know, a monastery is a building or complex that has been designated as an area of worship. Monks and nuns often practice religion, and even live in, the monasteries. 

 

Tibet has Monasteries and temples all over. Here are some of the most highly recommended for visiting:

  • Wara Monastery

  • Sera Monastery (as seen on left)

  • Pelkor Chode Monastery

  • Jokhang temple

Lhegu Glacier

 

Lhegu stands for "hidden village of idyllic beauty" - and the glacier has no problem living up to its name. You can visit the glacier by shuttle bus or rental car.

Bakhor Street

 

Found in the heart of Lhasa, Bahkor street retains it's ancient look and is a popular place for strolling, shopping, worshipping, and even protesting.

Drak Yerpa

 

Drak Yerpa is yet another Monastery in Tibet. It stands in the limestone cliffs and is considered extremely spiritual. Once you have visited the Monastery, be sure to check out the nearby Meditation Caves.

Guge Kingdom

 

More than 1,000 years ago, Guge was a thriving kingdom that went through over 16 different kings! Today the kingdom stands in ruins and is a popular place for explorers. Caves, kingdom walls, secret paths, and burial places are just a few of the things you will find in Guge.

Changthang Grassland

 

Changthang Grassland is most known for the large amount of wildlife that it's grasses attract. When visiting the grassland you can expect to see yak, donkeys, antelope, crane, rabbit, and more!

Yaluzangbu Grand Canyon

 

The Yaluzangbu Grand Canyon is one of the largest and deepest canyons in the world. The Canyon has just recently grown in popularity as a tourist attraction and is a great place to explore mountains, forests, rivers, and waterfalls. If exploring, you may also run into Menba and Luoba tribes practicing their different customs and rituals.
