EXUMAS, BAHAMAS - FREE AND FUN
Explore the Hermitage Plantation
The Hermitage, found in Little Exuma, is an old cotton plantation that was originally built in 1784. The plantation was built by loyalist settlers who fled after the American War of Independence. The plantation was run by slaves until 1806 when it was put up for sale. Today, many tourists go to explore the plantation's ruins. Most likely, a local guide will offer to show you around for a small fee. If you opt to pay the fee, be sure to ask to see the local tombs.

If you've booked a trip to the Bahamas, you probably already know about their gorgeous white sandy beaches and clear waters. The Exumas has a large mass of beaches, some of which are accessible through resorts and hotels, and others which are only accessible by boat. One of the longest and prettiest beaches in Exuma is the Tropic of Cancer Beach. Other popular beaches include the Jolly Hall beach, Coco Plum beach, and Hamburger beach.

Watch for Dolphins
While there are no actual "swim with the dolphin programs" in the Exumas (as of yet), you do have the more exciting opportunity of encountering dolphins in their natural habitat. Natural dolphin encounters are common throughout the Exuma islands. Dolphins have a tendency to follow boats, and can often be seen during scuba diving and snorkelling adventures.
Note: be sure to learn about dolphins and dolphin behaviors before jumping in the water with this beautiful marine animal.
